History of the church
The construction of this church started in 1856 and was completed in 1861. It is the largest and, without a doubt, the most beautiful church complex in Pera.
Many Arab Christians live in the wider area now. The church is built on a steep slope. It features two large towers to the west. A large courtyard over the building. On the north-west corner, outside the property, the ancient Greek primary school looks desolate, like the monumental fountain to the right of the entrance gate.
The church was fully renovated, both interiorly and exteriorly, in 2003. Today it stands in excellent operating condition. The Agios Konstantinos and Eleni Church in Tarlabasi is a gem and true pride for the Greek-Rums of Pera. It may not be the largest church in terms of area, but it certainly is the highest orthodox church in Istanbul. A glorious church, standing proud among the low-rise buildings of a district that is now on the decline.
